Lil Story Writers (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is an AI-powered writing platform designed for children. We take the privacy of children seriously and comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how parents can manage their child's data.

2. Information We Collect

From Parents

• Name and email address (via Google account sign-in)
• Parent PIN (stored as a cryptographic hash)

From Children

• Display name (first name, set by the parent)
• Grade level
• Writing content (stories, essays, and other text)
• Chat messages with AI writing coaches
• Voice input (converted to text for the writing editor; audio recordings are processed in real time and not stored)

3. Information We Do NOT Collect

We do not collect the following from children:

• Full legal name, email address, or phone number
• Physical address or precise geolocation
• Photos, videos, or biometric data
• Advertising identifiers or tracking cookies
• Social media account information
• Browsing history outside of our platform

4. How We Use Information

• Provide AI writing coaching — Your child's writing and chat messages are sent to our AI service to generate personalized coaching feedback.
• Show parents their child's progress — Parents can review writing, coach conversations, and leave feedback through the Parent Dashboard.
• Improve coaching quality — We may review anonymized usage patterns to improve our AI coaches.

5. Parental Consent (COPPA)

Before a child can use Lil Story Writers, a parent or legal guardian must create an account and provide consent. We verify parental identity through Google OAuth sign-in and explicit consent at the time of adding a child profile.

As a parent, you have the right to:

• Review all of your child's data through the Parent Dashboard
• Delete individual writings or your child's entire profile
• Request complete deletion of all data by contacting us
• Withdraw consent at any time, which will result in the deletion of your child's account and data

6. Data Storage & Security

• All data is stored in secure cloud databases (Supabase)
• All data transmission uses HTTPS encryption
• PIN codes are stored as cryptographic hashes, not plain text
• Voice recordings are processed for transcription and immediately discarded

7. Data Retention & Deletion

• Writing data is retained for as long as the child's account is active
• Parents can delete individual writings through the Parent Dashboard
• Deleting a child's profile removes all associated writing and coaching data

8. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate Lil Story Writers:

• Google OAuth — Parent account authentication
• Supabase — Database and authentication infrastructure
• Anthropic (Claude) — AI writing coaching. Writing content is sent for processing but is not stored or used for AI model training.
• Google Cloud Text-to-Speech — Coach voice output. Text is processed and not retained.
• OpenAI (Whisper) — Speech-to-text for voice input. Audio is processed and not retained.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify parents through the app or by email. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page indicates when this policy was last revised.
